An elegant and highly decorative pair of mid-19th Century Italian giltwood console tables.

Each retaining its original richly figured rouge marble top above a finely carved frieze adorned with scrolling foliate decoration and classical motifs. The tops are supported on a pair of boldly carved tapering legs, embellished with acanthus leaves, floral ornament and scrolling details, terminating in shaped block feet. Beautifully proportioned and retaining a warm, time-softened gilt finish with an attractive aged patina, these consoles display the exuberance and craftsmanship synonymous with Italian decorative furniture of the period. The richly coloured marble tops provide a striking contrast to the gilding, enhancing their elegance and sophistication.
